Brief History: From Women's Festival to Her-icane GoDiva

The Women's Festival was created in 1998, as a presentation opportunity for female artists, fostered by our Artistic Director, Glen Cairns and a committee of female artists from Saskatoon. The festival programming was developed by a committee of artists, in partnership with 25th Street Theatre.

The festival programming is multidisciplinary in scope and includes theatre, dance, music, literary art, visual art, film and craft. All presented art is adjudicated by a discipline specific professional jury.

The festival was renamed in 1999, as the Her-icane Festival, to highlight this important opportunity for female artists. The Her-icane Festival occurs in March annually, throughout Saskatoon in discipline specific venues. With the generous assistance of our community partners we develop three visual art gallery spaces, performance venues, and a film and video presentation space.
